Mount Elgon, ein erloschener Vulkan, ist der zweithoechste Berg Kenia´s - 4321m hoch. Die Grenze zu Uganda verläuft über dem östlichen Kraterrand. Das Chorlim Gate - der Eingang zum Reservat - liegt 40 km nordwestlich von Kitale.
Mount Elgon is an expirated volcano and the second highest mountain of Kenya, 4321m altitude. The borderline to Uganda passes over the eastern crater boundery. The Chorlim Gate - the entrance to the reservation, is situated 40 km northwestly from Kitale.

Der kleinste Nationalpark Kenia´s Saiwa Swamp National Park (2 km²) liegt wenige Kilometer nördlich von Kitale und ist nur zu Fuß zu durchqueren. In diesem Sumpfgebiet leben die seltenen Sitatunga-Antilopen.
The smallest National Park of Kenia Saiwa Swamp National Park (2 km²) is situated northly near to Kitale. You can walk here only by foot. The rarely Sitatunga antilopes are living here.
